President and Sister Eaton have three daughters and a son, as well as a granddaughter and another on the way. Two of their daughters served missions, including one who recently returned from the Washington Seattle Mission. Sister Eaton was born in San Francisco and raised in Maryland and Indiana. At the time of her call, she was serving on her local school board in Rexburg, Idaho.

President Eaton was raised in Auburn, Washington, and served a mission in Germany Hamburg. He earned his bachelor's at BYU and law degree at Stanford. He loves playing tennis and chess with his son, running, and, before this assignment, triathlons. He is the author or co-author of several books, including Extremes, Becoming a Great Gospel Teacher, and President Eyring's biography. Professionally, President Eaton has worked as an attorney and an executive in Seattle, an Institute director and seminary teacher in Auburn, and a religion professor and an administrator at BYU-Idaho over Pathway and online learning.
